Artist Statement

More Qua Artist.

What you see on this site is all my making. I joined the Hastings Community Centre Rockhounds in 2014 and learnt how to cut a cabochon. I then took it upon myself to learn silversmithing with the same club. Since, I have set up a home studio and attuned my skills. I joined the Richmond Gem and Mineral Society, and the Creative Jewelers Guild- All three of which I owe many thanks for the support and instruction. IN FACT, i owe thanks to most members of the BCLS for their guidance, and their company on rock hounding field trips.

The practice of discipline can be pursued though any activity... cooking, dancing, marketing... why rocks? For as long as I can remember... In my earliest memories, I loved stones. Many interests in life are picked up along the way... but rocks have been the object of my affection since before I can remember. And when I can provide reasoning for EVERY other decision I make in life, yet the heirloom reason as to why I am so enthralled in rocks escapes me... that makes them special.

As of late, carving and inlay have taken precedence.

There are many reasons why i began making jewelry. Love of stones, escape from past, a proactive activity, etc. I never, ever, imagined myself making jewelry- it just sort of happenned. I stick with the practice because it is a discipline. It, to me, is an excersize I marvel in. Like chasing a carrot on a stick, there is always another project to make; a more complex project. And so I don't make jewelry for the money or for the prettiness of it. I don't even wear it.

I am addicted to the inherent progress that is becoming of it. Its an adventure and one that has brought me reverence and pride.

I work out of my home studio and drop in studios, aspiring to make wearable sculptures; art that transcends superfluous jewelry designs.
